Buffy

No, not Buffy the vampire slayer. This Buffy had been around long before her.

This was a live sketch done of my parents-in-law's dog. It now sits, framed, on their wall.

Buffy was a very enthusiastic dog, she loved to chase balls and had an inside toy in the form of a carrot that squeaked when squeezed. Nothing like sitting in front of the television and suddenly finding a slobber-covered carrot in your lap, lol.

You could wave that carrot around and she would sit there and follow it with her eyes. One afternoon I had my sketch book and hubby was playing with Buffy, I asked him to hold the carrot still so Buffy would pose. For a good two hours that dog sat and stared at that carrot as I sketched her likeness. Hubby would alter the position of the carrot on request and Buffy would move accordingly. It was quite astonishing really.

I'm glad I did this drawing, as unfortunately Buffy passed away last year after an extensive battle with diabetes. She was a lovely dog, I just hope I've caught enough of her in this picture.
