SF3D or Maschinen Kreiger was the brainchild of Japanese graphic designer Kow Yokoyama. His unique vehicle designs were first released as kits by Nitto in the mid eighties and are still the best Sci-Fi kits ever to have been released and were pioneers in being some of the first truly multimedia kits ever.
This is my representation of an advanced model of the Nutrocker hover tank. The Nutrocker Mk1F is an updated design featuring heavier laser cannon, anti amour missiles and an anti-personnel laser for close quarter engagements.
In building the model I tried to keep the overall look and feel of Kow's SF3D designs. The main body is a stand for a 1/32 scale aircraft kit, while the turret head is a deodorant spray cap with parts from aircraft, tank and ship kits to create the laser cannon and missile launchers. The parts on the main body include a turret from a battleship kit the main deflector from a star trek kit and other bits and pieces. Plenty of filler and sanding was needed for this kit but unlike a store bought kit I did not mind. The model was painted in a mixture of enamels and acrylics and before a clear acrylic coat was applied it was weathered using washes and dry brushing.
This was truly fun build as the only limiting thing was my imagination no kit instructions to follow only the requirement that it keep in theme with the look of SF3D.
