Henschel P.87

by Stuart Beatson

Planet Models 1/72 Henschel P.87. This kit was a labour of love. I started it about 3 years ago, cleaned up all the parts and got it to the point of assembling the cockpit when I decided that it needed detailing and that was where it ended. There it sat for the next three years. One day while looking for a next build I pulled it out of the pile, looked at it, and decided that I had to finish this kit. The cockpit ended up being detailed easily using bits and pieces from assorted kits as well as some scratch built parts. The kit wheels were unusable due to air bubbles and deformities so I ditched them for some from the spares box. Within the week the kit was together and the paint ready to be applied. This is where I have to take my hat off to Planet. Not only do they make kits of weird and interesting subjects, the quality of some of their kits can rival the big boys. The fit of this kit was something to behold. It required virtually no filler and the only part that required a bit of fiddling about was the wings. They required a bit of adjustment to get them aligned right. Paints used were Testors acrylics. Decals were from the spares box. I highly recommend this kit for first time resin kit builders and anybody interested in Luft 46.
