RAAF X-Wing

by Mark Powley

In an alternate galaxy far, far away........

The RAAF re-equip with X-Wings to become a major superpower. The laser cannons originally fitted were found to be less effective in atmosphere and so more conventional weapons were fitted instead.

This is another of those AMT/Ertl Star Wars kits that I started with high hopes only to haves those hopes fade under the weight of all the work needed to make an accurate model. The cockpit interior was replaced with a resin set I got from the Cult TV Man website and was well worth it, being far more accurate than the kit item. Once I had given up my plan to do a proper X-Wing, I went with a fun What-If idea instead - a RAAF X-Wing. I also decided I wanted to pose it in flight as well. The pilot came from a 1/48 Airfix Harrier, the assorted weapons from the Hasegawa 1/48 Weapons set and the decals from Gecko Graphics F-20 Magpie decal sheet. The camoflage scheme is based on a F-15 scheme.

As Aussie pilots now say,"May the Beer be with you."!
