E-100

by Mark Powley

The E-100 represents the victory of technical innovation over common sense. Weighing in at 150 tonnes, with armour thicknesses between 120 - 240mm and a main armament of either 128mm or 174mm with a 75mm cannon as a coaxial gun the E-100 would have been an amazing vehicle to have come up against in action. It was however slow, overweight and cumbersome as well as exceedingly difficult for its crew to service. Had WW2 dragged on longer than it did the E-100 would have inevitably been overcome by hordes of M-26 Pershings, JS-3s and Centurions. Only one incomplete vehicle was built before the war ended.

This is Dragon/DML's 1/35 E-100. It is built mostly out of the box except for the power cable added to the front headlight and the periscope guards which I made from scrap bits of brass from an old pe sheet. One of the main gun halves of my kit was short shot so I took the opportunity to replace both guns with some turned aluminium barrels. The paint scheme is loosely based on a late war finish. I went mad with the weathering to give it a bleached and dusty look as something this big and heavy would have made a real mess of itself.
