One of the beauties of travelling in winter is the mercurial weather. There be sun, rain, and everything in between. Of course, I speak of the weather in Southern Australia as I am familiar with little else, but in my experience the lighting can be wonderous. The sun, when it is available, is at a […]
Since my first digital camera back in 2002, I have been gathering photos. Whenever we went out, travelled on holiday or simply wandered around the garden, my camera hasn’t been far from me. More recently with the increasing capabilities of the smart phone camera, I’ve had its basic capabilities at hand even closer. And then […]
I was planning on posting about some of my jewellery tonight, but I’ve managed to run out of time. So instead here is a photo from our recent holiday on the Yorke Peninsula that caught my eye while uploading those jewellery photos. Taking a break from my Retrospective posts tonight because I’ve been wrapped up in an argument between Instagram, my new Android phone and my iPad. But before I rave about what is going wrong, I have to say something about what is going right.

Calothamnus (common names include ‘Net Bush’) is a genus of plants confined the Western Australia. This one is from my In-Law’s front garden. It is responding to the unusually wet summer we’ve had, and has thrown on all this beautiful new growth. I was up there picking up my daughter when I saw it and had to rush home to grab my camera. The colours in this are fantastic and I may create some artwork from it.
For this week, for Shadow Shot Sunday, since it has been pouring with rain for the last few days, I’m offering an interesting, kinda abstract, shot I took a couple of weeks ago.
One thing I learnt a few years ago is that sometimes clouds make for much more interesting photography than blue sky. Travelling around in winter when the weather is very changeable (remember Winter Rains?) can give ample opportunity for dramatically lit shots.
