Taking a break from my Retrospective posts tonight because I’ve been wrapped up in an argument between Instagram, my new Android phone and my iPad. But before I rave about what is going wrong, I have to say something about what is going right.
I’ve always been fascinated by the small, lots of overlooked snatches of beauty very few see.
There is nothing specifically arty starting with the letter ‘N’. I went through the dictionary, I even went through the indexes of some of my art books and looked under N (great suggestion, Hubby :D), but all I could come up with was ‘nature’ and ‘negative space’.
It may rain, the sky full of grey cloud cutting off the sun. But for every raindrop there is a refracted rainbow. Don’t miss the beauty for the water in your eyes. ~ Gumnut Logic, 31 Oct 2005
Calothamnus (common names include ‘Net Bush’) is a genus of plants confined the Western Australia. This one is from my In-Law’s front garden. It is responding to the unusually wet summer we’ve had, and has thrown on all this beautiful new growth. I was up there picking up my daughter when I saw it and had to rush home to grab my camera. The colours in this are fantastic and I may create some artwork from it.
For this week, for Shadow Shot Sunday, since it has been pouring with rain for the last few days, I’m offering an interesting, kinda abstract, shot I took a couple of weeks ago.
One thing I learnt a few years ago is that sometimes clouds make for much more interesting photography than blue sky. Travelling around in winter when the weather is very changeable (remember Winter Rains?) can give ample opportunity for dramatically lit shots.
