I did more than 15 minutes of course. It was a public holiday here today and Hubby was home so between the both of us we juggled the kids and necessary tasks. Also, because I wasn’t running around madcap all day, I actually had some energy to spare for my art. So, no pressure and damn any mistakes or wonkiness, I just did art.
Well, I suppose you could call it that.
I am so art deprived at the moment. Art neglected, blog neglected, real life eating me alive. However, my sister kidnapped me and my eldest daughter last Saturday and locked us all in a room with some cheap art supplies and made us create. This is what I came up with.
Last Sunday was Mother’s Day here in Australia. I was rostered to work on Sunday, so I chose Saturday for my present day. What did I want? I told hubby no gifts, no cards, all I wanted was a day to do a painting. My aim was to see if I could manage to finish a painting in one day and if it was good enough I would enter it into a competition.
I actually managed to do some painting today! I didn’t complete what I started out to do, but I have made good progress and a painting is emerging.
I’m learning. And as I learn, I’m hoping to share what I learn. These are the tools and techniques and other little arty technical thingies that I’m playing with at the moment. I hope they are useful. ( a new series to tie in with my experiments and explorations – today I finished my Wreath Wattle painting and experimented with glazing)
God, this is scary – actually writing it down. Does this mean I actually have to follow up on it? 😀
It is more of a project than a resolution, but it is something that has been floating around in the vast empty space I use for a brain for several years now, and it is something I really should get off my butt and do.
So how did you go? Are there lots of red artworks out there? I hope so 😀
To submit your work to the challenge, either upload your art to the brand new Spectrum Square Flickr group, or add a link in the comments section of this post. Then we can all bask in the glory of last week’s colour 😀
It looks better in real life, trust me. My scanner has issues with red, as does my camera and printer. It must be the awkward end of the spectrum. in any case,I have red and yellow gel pen squiggles all over this and it has developed into a rather interesting background. I call it a work in progress because I think it needs a focus, something I have yet to work out what.
I’ve been fascinated by this background from my acrylic experiments last week. it has been yelling at me to create something from it. But I don’t know what. So last night I printed off a couple of copies of the square, and since they are reproduceable copies, I felt free to make as many mistakes as I had to. That is always very freeing. I still didn’t know what to make of it, so I just put my gel pen to the paper and drew. I don’t know what I’ve come up with, but I like it.
